Do you have questions about Rhode Island Marriage Licenses? New England Ceremonies can answer them, and here is the state link with all the rules for Rhode Island couples if you want to go directly to the source.
Where to get a Rhode Island Marriage License
If you are a Rhode Island resident, obtain your license from the town you live in. If you are a non-resident of Rhode Island, marriage licenses must be obtained from the town in which the ceremony will be performed.
Both parties must go to your city hall with their birth certificates, picture IDs, and divorce or death decrees from any previous marriages. You also must fill out an Rhode Island marriage license application/worksheet, and you can download the pdf from the State of Rhode Island.
No waiting period
There is no waiting period, and the cost is $24. You may apply for up to 90 days before your ceremony date.
A marriage license is valid for 3 months. The license will include the dates that
it is valid, and the ceremony must happen during those dates.
If the people do not get married, the license must be returned to the city or
town hall where it was issued.
In addition to the officiant, at least two other people, age 18 or older, must
witness the marriage for it to be valid. If the honor attendants are younger than
18, two other witnesses who are older than 18 must be a witness.
After the ceremony, your officiant has 72 hours to submit the license to town hall. This is part of our officiating service at New England Ceremonies.
The fee for a certified copy of a Vital Record is as follows:
- Walk-In Requests: $22.00
Additional copies issued at the same time $18.00 each - Mail-In Requests: $25.00
Additional copies issued at the same time $18.00 each
